About

About

Westwood Cohousing is a self-sustaining, self-financing, self-maintaining townhouse community on just over 4 acres of wooded land in a walkable urban area of West Asheville. One of the first American cohousing communities, it was developed in 1998 with the goals of environmental stewardship and connected living. Our membership includes doctors and other healthcare professionals, real estate workers, writers, craftspeople, spanning ages 0-98 years of age and even several dogs and cats!

Governance

We make decisions using a
method called Sociocracy (aka Dynamic Governance). Learn more about it in the video!

Work Days

Westwood has a flexible work requirement. Outside of our regular roles, a community-wide work day (focused on landscaping and light maintenance) happens once a month on a Saturday morning, followed by a celebratory group lunch.

Events

We voluntarily come together for (on average) 2 meals per week, a monthly international potluck, and informal meals/happy hours. Annual meals are also hosted, such as one following our annual meeting, a pancake breakfast on New Years, and many more.
